YUMA – Cibola High School student Katelynn Lugo was the winner of the Colorado River Balloon Festival artwork competition. Lugo’s artwork has been used to promote the 32nd Annual Colorado River Balloon Festival and serves as the official logo for the event.

“Katelynn is a wonderful student. She exudes creativity with each piece of art she creates,” CHS ceramics teacher Holly Hendrick said. “Katelynn loves art and it shows in her enthusiasm each day as she works on solving visual problems in our classroom. She is a joy to have in class and I am very proud to be her teacher.”

Each year, the Colorado River Balloon Festival holds a competition where the winning artwork will be used as the logo for that year’s festival. The winner also receives $400 for their submission.

The Colorado River Crossing Hot Air Balloon Festival is presented by the Caballeros de Yuma and is one of Yuma’s premier fall events. This year’s festival runs from Nov. 18-20 at the Yuma West Wetlands Park and Desert Sun Stadium with colorful and unique balloons from the West and Southwest. There will be different events such as the Desert Balloon Glow, where balloons burn their burners to glow brightly in the dark desert sky.
