PHOTO: Vehicle roll over and fire, November 21, 2021

On Sunday, November 21, 2021 just after 10:00p.m., officers responded to the 1500 block of S. 4th Avenue, in reference to a single vehicle rollover collision.  It was also reported that the occupants of the vehicle had run from the scene.

Upon arrival, the officers located a vehicle resting on its roof and saw that a backflow water valve had been struck, causing a large amount of water to flow into a parking lot.  The vehicle caught on fire and became fully engulfed after the occupants ran.  The fire was quickly extinguished by the Yuma Fire Department.  Witnesses at the crash site gave officers the description and direction of travel the occupants of the vehicle had gone.  The driver and passenger were soon located in the 1500 block of 6th Avenue.

Both subjects were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  The driver, 20 year old Jovani Gandara, was later arrested and booked on multiple felony charges.

The cost of damages is estimated to be over $6,000.00.  Speed appears to be a factor in this case.  No other injuries were reported.
