YUMA -- A man in Yuma has been rescued by firefighters by calling out for help when his mobile home caught on fire. Around 9 at night, Yuma fire got a call about smoke coming from a trailer.
When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the front door. The front door was forced open and firefighters were met with heavy smoke, but no active flames.
That's when firefighters opened the door and found the man calling out for help. The man was carried out of the smoke-filled mobile home, and treated for heat and smoke injuries by YFD paramedics. He was quickly taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center for life-threatening injuries and then flown to a Phoenix area burn center.
The unit in the fire occurred in sustained moderate smoke damage, and was not habitable.
The fire was found to have originated in a cooking pot, which had been placed on an open stove door. Unattended cooking does not appear to be a factor as there were various non-food items burned inside of the pot, such as trash, wood, and other debris.
No other injuries were reported.
